MARGARET HILDA THATCHER
Margaret
Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher, was a British politician.
She was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May
4, 1979 to November 28, 1990, becoming the first woman to have held that post
and the longest-serving prime minister in the history of the United Kingdom.
From 1975 to 1990 she was also leader of the British Conservative Party. In
1992 she was awarded the noble title of Baroness of Kesteven in the county of
Lincolnshire. Its name is linked to the political-economic current called
Thatcherism, which blends conservatism with Milton Friedman's liberalism, and
the period of the eighties in the United Kingdom is called the Thatcherian era.
She was also known by the nickname of the Iron Lady. He put in place a series
of political and economic initiatives designed to reduce Britain's high
unemployment.
