VALENTINA TERESHKOVA
Valentina Tereshkova was born on March 6 1937. When she was only two years old her father was killed fighting in the Second World War. Valentina helped her mother at home and she wasn't able to begin attending school until she was ten.Then she moved to her grandmother home and she starts to work in a cotton mill. In 1959 she joined the Yaroslav Air Sports Club and became a skilled amateur and parachutist. Ispired by the flight of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in the space, she volunteered for the Soviet Space Program. She had not experience as a pilot, but at the time Russian were looking for people with parachuting experience. The candidates for the ONE TIME WOMAN IN SPACE FLIGHT were five, but after an hard course with many difficults tests she was chosen to became the first woman in the space.
